Re-paint High Gloss Kitchen Cabinets?

Wondering if our chocolate brown high gloss kitchen cabinets in our newly purchased house could ever be sprayed a lighter despite their color and finish? Could we make them a matte white for instance? The kitchen is well designed but the cabinets make it dark space...

I think your kitchen looks great! I would definitely live with it for a while. White kitchens are so popular now you may find you like having something unique. (Nothing against white I have white gloss myself). Whether you can paint over the gloss, I don't know. My sense is you may have to ruin the finish to get the paint to adhere and I'd be nervous to do that in what looks like a beautiful appropriate to the home kitchen.

I like your kitchen! I would live with it for awhile. I notice I like things more the longer I have them. Sometimes it takes awhile to appreciate what you have. Maybe it's me?

That being said, I wonder if you can just temporary fasten a light color board to the front of the island to see if you like it more. Live with that and see if that is what you want. I would not paint it until I could see the difference.
