Last year I was NOT lucky at all with Stupice.

They were VERY late, and VERY few.

NOTE: the red tomato is a CHERRY tomato to compare the sizes.

Stupice: 1.6 oz. Very small.

I like Stupice also but as the season went on they got smaller and smaller, near the end they were golf ball size.

I grew Stupice last year too. Like Vince said they got smaller and smaller. Also mine was different strain with fruits similar to Bloody Butcher. Plus in my wet PNW potato leases are prone to mold. YMMV

Late season tomatoes ripped BEFORE early season tomatoes

The first tomatoes are the most exiciting even if they taste not that good.
Edweather, how many days from seeds and from planting outside it took for Stupice to ripen?
We ate our first ripened Legend tomato yesterday. The taste was quite good for the first tomato, not very acidic and not very juicy, just right tomato-ey. My kids ate their share and asked for more. That tells me something. Two more tomatoes are getting red on the same truss.

I grew Stupice last year and mine were golf ball size the entire season. Loads and loads of them. They were not the earliest and while they tasted good, I'm not a big fan of small tomatoes. For those that are it would be a good one I think.

Darn it! You have ripe tomatoes already, same zone as me!! Mine are acting like ripening is a crime or something. 4th of July have been to size for 2 weeks now and just sitting there. So jealous! Seriously though, glad you enjoyed them.

@antmary, Started indoors March 15, planted out in containers May 1 w/protection.

I enjoy the taste, and they are one of my staple tomatoes....for salads, and sliced in a bowl all summer. Sorry so many of you have trouble with them. I must have the knack and climate for them.

About Stupice :
I heard Carolyn mentioning before that there are several strains (3?) of Stupice. And I think Tatiana's data base also has confirmed this.

We see Ed's tomatoes are round but mine (last year) were lobed. Like in the attached pictures.

It also shows great inconsistency in size
Mine were more like in the first picture but all lobed.

Mine aren't round. It might be the photo angle. They're a bit "blocky" like Carolyn describes in her book. No lobes now like you say, but they will develope lobes as the season progresses. There are probably 3 strains, but this one is all I know. I've bought seeds twice and each batch of seeds has produced the same tomatoes for me. I've grown them for about 10 years in a row now except for one year when I grew Moravsky (sic) Div, and I was disappointed, so I went back to Stupice. Actually I was expecting this first tomato to be a bit mealy, but I lucked out, it was decent.

I have one picture when the fruits were green. If you look closely you can see that they are NOT round.

Mine were round too.

As I said, Stupice ( stew- pea-che') has several strains . You've happened to have the round one. I had the lobed strain.
