yes, you all have nailed it. I am going to do what I do best and cut and paste the suggestions and present…really like the Robert Abbey one; the Teagan, and all the mirrors as each picks up the tone of the stone fireplace. One more I want your opinion on…need to go find.

This one…too ornate? The color is good…

This is my thought judyg....like that mirror, but i'm thinking something more simple. What about a wide flat frame with just nailheads for a border? The only reason I'm thinking this way is because the dresser is beautiful and is an art piece in itself. I may be off track here, but that mirror above almost looks too feminine too me. Could be way off though. I hadn't even thought about a nailhead trim mirror until you posted that. And haven't looked to see if there is one, but I'm sure there is. If not you could have one made easily. You could even do it in a leather, but of course I have no idea what else is going to be going on in this room. I'm thinking manly here! Maybe get a fabric or leather in the grayish taupe color with hammered nailheads???

mp, going to look for your idea and will post if I find what i think you are suggesting.

judy, love the white room! And I like both mirrors, yours and MM's, it just depends on if you want oval or round. I can't wallpaper! I just painted....OMG I can't do that.....

    When do you present?
Don't like the rectangle, sorry, I do like the oval and the round. I would say if you're going with a tall thin lamp go with the oval; a short fat lamp go with the round.

@judyg. One thought: in this month's Arch. Digest there was a gorgeous reno. where they saved the original (1930-ish) antique, smokey mirror wall tiles. They looked very much like MP's photo "arched mirrors". How would the fireplace walls be with that kind of antique mirror tile lining the back of both walls? Here U can see some of the tiles. The house was c1930 and the chest U like has, to me, an art deco vibe. http://www.architecturaldigest.com/decor/2013-01/commune-los-angeles-house-restoration-article

Afternoon all, afraid Zoo and I did not agree yesterday. Started out a pleasantly warm and overcast day - perfect for the Zoo but after 2 1/2 hours the clouds cleared completely and it got hotter and hotter till 4pm. Got a bit too much sun and although I kept drinking I think I got a little dehydrated and after 4 hours of walking, I was done!!! Left the mob to it and went back to the main entry, refilled my water bottle twice and sat in the cool just drinking. Zoo closed at 5pm fortunately and the mob were rounded up and tossed out so we all adjourned back here for a cricket match on the front lawn. By 7 they were done and left, and BH and GDD decided to adjourn to the Club for a beer, which I would have loved, but I thought better of it and I ended up going straight to bed. I really officially qualify as old. My knee is like a football today so I can really empathise with the broken toes.

Michi, that view of Ez's does look a bit like Uluru but our colours are so much harsher

    http://www.google.com.au/search?sourceid=navclient&aq=&oq=photos+of+uluru&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4SUNA_enAU288AU288&q=photos+of+uluru+ayers+rock&gs_l=hp..2.0l4.0.0.0.17618...........0.KER615nHaQA&pbx=1

I will have to find out how you guys find photos so quickly to post. If I search a particular room with certain colours I get everything under the sun. I was looking for a bedroom the other day and got loungerooms, dining rooms and even gardens and half the bedrooms didn't even have the colours I wanted.

We got a great compliment the other day too, from a lady who enjoys reading our doings and thinks we are all very talented. Take a bow!!!! Told her to introduce herself next time.

Lots of great chats today, but I just don't have the attention span to look at anything.

Bobbi, I happened to come across a phobia yesterday that we can add to our list of foibles and anxieties ............ one I think you will enjoy for a change................. mageiricophobia ................ fear of having to cook!!!!! Hehehehe.

Judy...the white room is lovely. The bed brought back memories of the bed I had as a tween/young teen. I had forgotten all about it until I saw that picture. My brother sent me a box of old photos a couple of weeks ago. I haven't had time to go through them all, but maybe there will be a picture of it in them. I'll see.

Hi all, I have made a big mistake when I bought a sofa and chair, I was going for a shabby chic look, and I loved the shape, but it did not take me long to find out how quickly the linen fabric creases and it drives me crazy! It will have to be re-covered with something that does not look creased at some time in the future when I can persuade hubby that this is a necessary expense! My intention had been to keep everything light and neutral and to change the look with the seasons by changing cushions and vases etc. However we really needed another chair in the room, and just before Christmas I decided the room needed a shot of colour and for some crazy reason I went for what I intended to be a raspberry colour. So I bought a chair which turned out not to be as raspberry as I thought! I have now shot myself in the foot because I am stuck with this kind of wishy washy dark pinky colour on the chair, and the crushed looking fabric on the light sofa and chair, and I cannot really change the look of the room to match the seasons. There is one shade of green I could use for cushions, which contrasts nicely with the chair, but I think the whole thing is getting too bitty, and I am not sure how to pull it all together? Our rooms in the UK are probably smaller than you are used to. The floor is limed oak and the walls are painted "sail white". I also need to change some shelves in the corner . Advice please!
Busylady - I really like that pink, it looks great with the linen but it is a very modern colour so will dictate the rest of the room although what you have goes well. I'm not sure about the brown curtains although that photo is a little dark. I think the right rug will bring it all together for you and some artwork on the walls to cosy the room up a bit. I think I have seen some rooms here that might but will have to boot up my computer to find them. Get back to you.
Thought you might like to see a view from my window today, and the snow is still coming down. The footsteps are from where I went out to put out some bird food.
roo, I'm so sorry the zoo didn't work out the way you'd hoped! When you get dehydrated, Gatorade or beer is the way to go. I know all about heat and I'm not looking forward to the summer!

Fear of cooking? Funny! That's me.

Busylady, the linen is beautiful, but that's the problem with linen, isn't it, it wrinkles terribly. I like the pink chair, too. I hope you can find a cure for the linen wrinkles because that's a great looking room you've got going. Very neat, very clean, nice!
Hi Roo, thanks for getting back to me. The curtains are not as brown as they look, they are more of a taupe colour, with a narrow chalk stripe. It is quite dark today as it is snowing heavily here.

When I see decorators, especially, post photos of rooms furnished with "natural fibres" I always wonder who does their ironing. I had a linen pants suit once that I loved but it looked like a rag by the time I put the pants on. Everyone told me I shouldn't worry as people would appreciate the fact that it was linen. I learned to ignore it after a while as it wasn't cheap, but when you like things nice and neat, it is hard to cope with. Short of slipcovers for the cushions, if you could match something to the rest of the lounge, I don't know what a cheap alternative would be.
I wonder why they can't add a little polyester or nylon or rayon to linen to make it more user friendly? It's a shame because linen is such a beautiful fabric.
Bobbi, I thought you would like the cooking phobia - worth remembering (if you can pronounce it) it sounds impressive.

Funny I nearly bought some Gatorade the other day except they didn't have any single bottles only 6 packs and I wanted to try it first. GDD leaves Tuesday and I am really going to force myself to attack the gym. I just have to get my feet and legs moving and my knees loosened up. I'm just not doing enough of the right sort of exercise.
Gatorade also comes in a powder here, you might look for that, it won't take up space in your fridge and it won't go bad, either.

The gym??? You don't get enough excersize painting? Up and down the step stool, bending, stretching....I'm taking today off. I was so over tired yesterday I couldn't sleep!!! But I am done painting GB!. I'm not very good, but I am slow.

I'm afraid it will look like busylady's here, by tomorrow morning! I may have mentioned that the Parks annual brunch Saturday was postponed, due to possible bad weather. I don't know why organizations don't shift their year to a March or April beginning, because every other year the weather's terrible, and they have to reschedule events!

Roo - Sorry about your day at the Zoo being too hot! I remember going to the Philadelphia Zoo years ago, and there too we only lasted the morning, because it got too hot & sticky.

While my home is more neutral, some of the color combinations you guys have posted, are really pretty .. even the bright yellows & greens!
Thanks Roo, the photos you have posted are an inspiration! I thought I was stuck with the pink and cream, and if I added more colours it would look messy. You have proved me wrong! I specially love the first photo. I will think about taking the taupe curtains down when the weather gets warmer( they are good for winter as they are thickly interlined and have a very cool stripe on the lining which shows on the outside), but I like the thought of a clashing green curtain for spring and summer. Need some artwork too.

Bobbi I have only cleaned and tidied one room today, you should see the rest!

MM I love my limed oak floors!
michi - how did you find that photo? I went though heaps and never saw that one.

Bobbi, I definitely notice the difference in just what I do at home and what I do at the gym. The gym is more a controlled workout so you can't slack off. My knee doesn't like climbing for the painting so I don't do any stair work at the gym, just the power plate, that really gives everything a workout while I just stand still and it does so much freeing up my knees. The treadmill keeps me moving at a steady pace and I don't have to worry about uneven surfaces and when I really do it regularly it helps my balance as well.

I saw on TV a building that caught on fire and when the firemen had doused the fire the whole building looked like an ice palace. How cold would that have been - was it in Chicago???

That would be so bad if it were too cold to go outside. I remember olldcan said about that one time. It does seem weird when they talk Global warming but it is supposed to cause more severe storms that cause more severe cold weather as well. Doesn't make much sense. I noticed when they were talking about our really hot days here they mentioned a record high that was set back in the 1930s, so how come it has taken that long to get back up there again. They never mention what the temps were around date day, so you don't know just how exceptional it was. We seem to be getting one really hot day a week and the rest of the time it has been low 20s, which is quite cool for our summers.
Busylady - I'm so glad those photos were a help to you. There is something about that first photo, I would never put pink and orange together but they have made it work. Thinking of your day today it would make your room really welcoming - like walking into a tropical island - but it would also look nice and fresh in summer. I am doing separate heavy thermal linings on my doors that need to keep the heat out in summer and in in winter, as they do darken the room. This way I can open the thermal on normal days to let the light in. Bit of a pain as I then need to make 3 curtains for each window, but I'm hoping the overall effect will give me the flexability I need.

Sorry I only looked at your photos on my iPod and didn't see your rug although I think I would like some colour in it. I lean to the second photo a bit for the rug and the patterned cushions.
Ez, sorry to hear your shower curtains seemed to have failed. Do you have a Microsoft computer or are you using Apple? I can help you with Microsoft but am having problems with Apple myself. Actually I meant to have a fiddle today and email myself photos from my iPod, and save them and then I should be able to attach here. Must remember that for tomorrow, dying to show you some photos.

@busylady1 I like your room just the way it is. Love the rug, floor lamp, drapes, new chair and the linen sofa/chair. I even like the linen wrinkles! The only thing I would suggest is to add a bit more of that gorgeous aqua color I see in the glass vase. Maybe 2 more aqua glass pieces on the other side of white console table and a small aqua print pillow in the center of the sofa?

LOVE the chair, too…the style, the color….in the Debra Borden shot, that pillow fabric is the one I posted above and used for drapes. In case you like the raspberry version, busylady, it is Kravet. It may be a little too red, but here is an affordable pillow on etsy.com

No, they live off Cape and are only here on weekends. Relating to the above Kravet fabric, I dropped off some Kravet coordinates in Sunbrella for them to look at for dining seats. I'm still on the fence about the mirror…the bookcase to the right of the grey stone fireplace is white to the ceiling, the scroll chest will be to the left, next to the Kravet drapes. Maybe i should have a big off white mirror to go with the scroll, balance the white built-in…I am not usually this indefinite..:,(… found the true color on etsy in a pillow, take a look.

I like balance, too, j22, but besides a mirror/picture/furniture, what else would work? The owners do not want another built in and it wouldn't work anyway as the window treatment takes up some room when it is pulled back…have to have the window treatment, as the slider is facing West and the ocean. The space is 50" wide.

@astraea very nice fireplace reno. This is your house? How do you like placement of TV? Some say they get a sore neck & I have no personal experience. What has been your experience? Coffee table is unusual...what period is it?
Yes, my house, slightly different angle for photos. I would have liked it lower, as far as not having to crane my neck, but didn't think the TV should be closer to the fireplace. Coffee table is just large square wooden "box", with draws on opposite sides. It's good for resting your feet & storing things. There's also a hexagonal end table that's from the same manufacturer. Have them since 1981.

I'm going nuts; I can't find an entire folder of "before & after" photos on my computer!!!
