Hi Kristin. Thank you for your question! The rods pictured were already in the home so we didn't see any reason to change them out. There isn't any rule on what size rod must be used when doing stationary panels and it also would depend on the size of the room and window. I typically use anywhere from 2ft-4ft rods.
