Mi casa es su casa! Summertime means a full house for most, and with the kids home and the mother-in-law’s impending visit, this kitchen was in much need of an update before everyone’s arrival. As with any family, the kitchen is one of the main gathering areas, and the previous layout wasn’t fitting the bill. All that was needed was a small update, not a complete renovation, to freshen the area and add a bit of “WOW factor” to impress the in-laws.

The first item on our agenda was making room for a larger, more family-friendly island. A tired and boring desk area was replaced with gorgeous floor to ceiling cabinets which added much needed storage and keeps clutter out of sight. The additional floor space enabled us to add twelve inches to the width of the kitchen island – now the perfect spot for an impromptu family fiesta!

The leathered black granite was our finishing touch. Its color complements the existing stone throughout the home and is a practical option for hiding water marks and smudges that a household creates.

Finally, a house is not a home if it isn’t welcoming. To tie the new kitchen space into the rest of the home, the dated tiled floor was replaced with hardwood – creating visual flow and a comfortable place to stand that says “Welcome Home. See the whole transformation here.
