Where will the security fence be placed? It would be nice to have some curved edges to all this pavement, and curved beds of ground cover plants and bulbs of all seasons.

If you did not have an adjacent flagstone terrace, what would you do? where would the pedestrian circulation be placed from the house to the pool? Which end would you approach? Where will the seating group and tables be, only back here on the flagstone terrace, since it is nearby?

Perhaps a transition from flagstone terrace to pool deck would be a mistake, Plan out the uses. You may not want to have the pool environment as a part of your entertainment terrace for the entire year, winter and summer. Plan it carefully, before going further. You can always connect the two next year, in next year's budget.

Where will the pool equipment be located, and will the underground utilities follow your pedestrian route of access?

All pavements will be hot in the sun, even the sandy beach is hot. If you provide a porous pavement, like un-mortared paving brink on sand, you could keep it below coping level and provide an irrigation mist system to cool it while the pool is in use.

Of course, you would require sharp drainage beneath, so the water was carried away to a dry well or water garden or other absorbent facility.

Concrete coping at the pool edge looks great with bluestone, and its light color does not absorb a lot of heat.
