Beautiful!

Are these annual types or perennials? I'm guessing annuals, since my perennials bloomed almost a month ago. This is my first year with them blooming and I was disappointed at how brief the display was. The colors you have are beautiful, and your foliage is really lush, as well. Thank you for sharing.

Were these grown from seed? I always have bare patches in the border about this time in the season and forget that poppies sure would look nice. I really like your color selection too.

They are Papver somniferum, annuals which self seed prolifically and throw up a wide variety of colours. You never know how self sowers will turn out.

Yes - what Floral said. We mark and save the seeds from the nicest ones, but it is a bit of a crap shoot. What falls to the ground before fall/winter will germinate - I liberally sow in the spring the second the snow is gone. They have a short blooming period, but I love them so much it is worth it. The cosmos are coming up amongst them, so they will be hidden, and then cut back once we harvest the the seed. The controversy here is I tend to leave the pods till they are dry, and Joyce cuts them while green and lets them dry. I just don't know if the seed will be viable that way. We also have some 'Flanders' poppies coming on now too - the foliage is hairy, and the flowers have more black in them, much like the perennial Orientals. I'll have to get a pic.

Waiting for ours to bloom! This one looks so pretty! :) :)

Love the mauve one Nancy, I have them pop up in the garden from time to time, I think they come from the birdseed the neighbor puts out, so far I've only had pink ones.

I have peony poppies and cosmos next to each other but never thought of planting them interspersed. Great idea; I just have to find some taller poppies!

Pretty! What a difference. Here in TX mine bloomed in March. We did not "do" winter this year. No killing frost at all. I brought plenty of seeds to my new home.

You can still post links to a photo album on another site, but I now just upload directly to GW since it's so much easier on my slow connection.
