That happens so often up here. There was a builder/landscaper that built this beautiful home. In front he did the landscaping and planted some 8' weeping Cedrus atlantica, which is a zone 6 conifer and we are in zone 3/4. Those beautiful huge trees died that winter. So sad that people do not take the time to research.

It is probably a good thing I do not live in an area where Adeniums are zone hardy. LMBFBO...I buy enough of them now and have to find room for them during the winter months. LOL.

landscape architects are the worst! I don't think they learn a thing about zones or what plants grow where. I have watched them put in river birch, delpheniums, apple trees, bearded iris...so many plants that die within a few weeks at the most because they can't take the heat or humidity. we watched one firm put in tons of hosta, yes, hosta, in full sun and then watched them all die the next day. The guy was bragging to a friend how he had to order them and have them shipped because people in Texas didn't know anything. We might not know what a hosta is but we know they live in the north and grow in shade lol.

I leave my adeniums out as a rule, we rarely have a freeze and putting them up against the house and blocked from the north wind is usually enough. The plumeria stay in the ground year round. Only lost them during a hurricane a few years back.

Along the same line, I was in Lowes last week and overheard a couple asking one of the employees if the DR they were holding could go in the ground and was hardy. After listening to her stumble all over her words and then saying "Oh yeah it will be fine" I politely interrupted and said NO! I explained that they were definitely not hardy in coastal SC (8b) and that all of mine come inside once we begin to get below 50 and rainy. They were so thankful but the employee was less than pleased with me. Looking up info on plants is probably the number one thing I use my smartphone for. I would rather hear someone say I don't know than give the wrong info to a customer.
