Feedback on outdoor kitchen

Hello all,

We plan to have an outdoor kitchen on our covered patio. The covered patio is 12' deep by 25' wide and is located off the back of the house. We'll also have a fire pit table on the covered patio and a TV on the shared wall with the laundry room (see plan below).

Here is a first draft sketch for the outdoor kitchen. We'd like to have a grill, under-counter refrigerator, sink, ice maker or ice drawer, storage for grilling accessories, storage for some plates and cups, trash can, and storage for a blender and other drinking items. I'd like to keep at least a 36" walkway between the house and the bar. We would like to eat at the fire pit table. We plan to have a use a 42" wide square fire pit with a 9" overhang, which would make the table top a square 60" with 18" ledge and 24" square fire in the middle. The bar will be primarily used when we entertain or have friends over at the pool. We'd be open to making any changes including changing the location and/or shape of the outdoor kitchen and the fire pit table.

My initial reaction is you need more landing space on either side of the grill, can you put the grill in the corner at a 45* in place of the lazy susan?

Going from the bottom of the photo to the corner, I think I'd do icemaker, sink, refrigerator, draws. I'd like the drawers to be more accessible for the person at the grill. I'd also like more standing place if someone is mixing drinks at the sink and someone else is grilling at the same time. In the current arrangement, I think two people would be a tad closer than I'd prefer.

When's the kick-off party? I'll BYOB and bring an appetizer! What a great place for entertaining and relaxing you'll have. Envious.

Funky brings up a good point about more room between sink and grill. I've never had any help in the kitchen, so two people working together never crosses my mind ;)

If your grill will be under roof you may want to think about a hood even on the eaves.

I have been researching outdoor kitchens a lot, and on several bbq forums ive read people talk about backdraft under the eaves or into the house. Then there are the flare ups.

I suppose it depends on how powerful your grill is and and how high the eaves will be. DH and I will put our outdoor kitchen on an uncocered patio so we dont have to worry about it.

Yea, mine's going to be up against the wall of a pool house with some eaves, I'm putting in a hood.
