Tell us where you purchased it. Some dealers have the real thing; others don't.

I purchased mine from Derrick Martin off of ebay. He has a business called A Piece of Paradise Hawaiian Plumeria Society. It was purchased this past March. To be honest with you, when I won the auction, it was for one Pink Pansy cutting and when I received them, he had sent two Pink Pansy cuttings and one called 'Grand Hawaiian'. All three cuttings took root and appear very healthy to me. I was ecstatic that I even got them to grow. Keep in mind...I'm relatively new to plumerias. I mainly keep tropical pitcher plants.

Have any of you interacted with this seller? I am hoping it was by accident that I got this plant. I'm very happy with it...but it would be nice to get an actual pink pansy. I love the color and shape of their flowers! Again, thank you everyone for your help and feedback!

tdogdad, that is more the impression of what I am expecting from mine. I am so new to plumerias, not sure what to expect I guess, having never seen a flower live? There are some varieties that apparently change shape over time as the flowers open and mature. I bought this one partly because I really like that cupped look!

Hi Lutteo! Thank you for your kind words. As I stated in a previous post, I had won one cutting and he sent me two pink pansy and one grand hawaiian. I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed that the second pink pansy may be the real thing! :)

Glad I didn't have to be the one to break the news again! No, not JL Pink Pansy unfortunately, but a beautiful flower nonetheless.

If you want exact cultivars DM is not the right source, but if you just want healthy cuttings he's a good source.

Hi and thank you for the advice. Unfortunately being new to plumerias I was the victim of buyer beware. As stated before, I did receive healthy cuttings. I have a total of four cuttings at the moment and about six or so seedlings. If I get more space, I'd like to try and get a genuine JL pink pansy. May I ask for suggestions on more reputable nurseries? I only ask in case I need to look in the near future. Thank you again for all your help.

By the way, does anyone have any clue as to what variant I have? I googled earlier and I wasn't able to find anything resembling mine. When the flower initially opens, it actually is more white. As it ages, it turns more dark pink with the yellow center.

Hi Bassic, I honestly have no idea what plumeria you have but honestly I like it better than the JL Pink Pansy. I also have a plumeria nursery but I'm completely sold out of the pink pansy plumerias. When I first started I bought hundreds of plumeria's from Derrick and Florida Colors and Brads Buds and Blooms. If you want a very good source check with Florida Colors Nursery or Brads Buds and Blooms. I noticed that a lot of the ones I bought from Derrick didn't exactly end up being what it was labeled but at the same time you can get amazing plumeria's from Derrick for a fraction of the price that you'd pay at other vendors. I still buy from Derrick on occasion but I always let the plant bloom before I sell it so I know it's exactly what it should be. Also, if you like Pink Pansy you really need to look at Brittany instead. They are very similiar but the Brittany will out perform the pink pansy big time and actually puts the pink pansy to shame...not that pink pansy isn't great but once you see Brittany bloom it will blow you away....just a thought. The Brittany also sets seed pods really easy and smells much stronger than the pink pansy. Your plumeria is really nice whatever it is.

Duc, your pink could be one of many good pinks out there including those with no official name yet.

As for the real Pink Pansy, Florida Colors would be my first stop for any named plant. Really great nursery and developer of cultivars like Brittany. (And thanks for the terrific info on Brittany, Hendo!)

FC does a lot of grafts, which some people don't like, but grafts are stronger right from the start than rooted plants. And I've never heard of anyone getting the wrong plant from Florida Colors!

Dave, I've seen Kms2's PP and it is not compact by any stretch of the imagination! However, it is a much more beautiful flower in person than in photos! Nice scent and big size, too.

I happen to have one of Derrick's so-called 'Pink Pansy's' and it's just starting to bloom. I will post photos in the future.

I think it may be the same one as the OP has posted. I really like it! Reminds me a bit of Magnum Opus. I have a number of varieties I'll be tossing this year, but this one may be a keeper. The bloom size looks good and the petals are wide and overlapping. I like the coloration as well. Some no-ID plumerias are just as good as named ones.

I see that Derrick has renamed this variety as Pink Pansy Hybrid on his website.

I'm pretty new to collecting plumeria. A couple weeks ago I placed an order on his website because the deals were amazing. How could I say no to 10 cuttings for $60? I realize the varieties may not be true to what he's naming them but I'll be happy with some pretty flowers. I do not have plans for resale. I did try to stay away from the plumerias that he listed as hybrids and named after friends and family. Scratch that last part. I actually selected one or two "uniquely named" plumerias because I liked the pictures. I wanted some Hawaiian plumerias but a trip to the islands is not in the budget right now. I'm hoping Hawaiian plumerias have more fragrance than the plumeria blooms I've smelled in person in my area. I know it's nuts to start cuttings at this time of year but I'm a little plumeria crazy right now. :)

I'm having great luck with seedlings too. I have no idea what I'm going to do with them next year but I'm having fun seeing great germination rates. I just received 100 seeds from a trusted Thailand seller this week. I started soaking 1/3 of the seeds yesterday.

OK, so my 'Derrick's Pink Pansy Hybrid- whatever' (from Piece of Paradise) just opened up for the first time. It's not as intense in color as the original poster's, but does look very similar.

And I have to say I like it and will keep it. The bloom size is quite large -- especially for a first-time bloom, and the petals are of good substance with wide overlapping petals. And the petals open wide. Fragrance....meh....but I'll check again today. Three inflos on this plant!

Those are pretty flowers! Congratulations to you! Since you got yours from the same source as I did...and assuming they are the same hybrid, the colors of the petals may change over time. Mine would start off mostly white and over the next few days, the petals turned more pink.

They are either the same hybrid or multiple seedlings of Pink Pansy. Who really knows!? Anyway, I've never heard of flowers that actually get more pink as they age. Usually they fade.
