I would like some advice on my hamamelis mollis boskoop. I planted it in a container in fall 2014. I am in canadian zone 5, but zone 3 if you consider that I am on a third floor terrace. My container is 4 feet by 4 feet by 2 feet deep, filled with organic urban soil. It has good drainage and is insulated with 2 inches of insulating styrofoam. It is in sun to partial shade. I make sure the soil does not dry out. Here is the problem: this spring (first spring in its new home) it barely grew any leaves. We are now in July and I have groups of leaves of on the tips of some branches, but most of the tree is bare. The few leaves that are present look healthy. The last winter was brutally cold although some less hardy plants made it through OK. Any thoughts?
