I have a larger one than that, the leaves get quite large and look great. Something to look forward to.

Nice plant, but not one for the average household; its thorns are vicious! How do you deal with that inside?! You've done a terrific job though!

P.S., Not living in the average household here either btw, yes, I have one but would not want to have to bring it into the house!

I'll tell you what I do. I will keep it indoor in winter in my living room with abouth 50 anothet plants. (10 palms)
Winter air humidity is 50-60%. I have a T8 grow light, humidifier and a ceiling fan. Soil is my self-made. Pine bark, perlite, peat and leca cravel
and sand.
I use also bloodmeal, banana peels, used coffee grounds, egg shells, dead leaves etc. I dry them and grind them, and I'll use as a fertilizer. I use seaweed and chicken manure as well. I use a spray bottle every day it is actually a mist bottle.
Watering is important to do it properly. Then when it is time to water, I water at one time very well, and then I will give the soil to dry out but not too much.
Moisture meter is my finger when I need to irrigate again. I use tap water. Our water pH is 7.2. I checked it. I'll try to be collected rain water, but it is a little difficult in the balcony. Between the pot and saucer I have a plastic bottle caps because then the air to circulate well and the plant will never stand in water.

You said thorns are vicious! I also have a Phoenix roebelenii, Washintonia robusta and Phoenix dactylifera seedling.

I think some Phoenix species are just as bad in terms of those dangerous thorns (Silver Date and Cretan Date for example). Roebellini is not so bad. Canariensis are one of my favorites and are easy from seed btw (but it does possess those vicious thorns). Since you love palms so much (and live in a far northern climate), you probably should add a Butia to your collection. Have not grown these from seed (but from virtual seedlings). I read all over that they are so SLOW, but I look around and all my 'seedlings' are now in the biggest containers I have (think they are 30 gallon plastic tubs); but all my palms spend March till December outside in full sun, then go into a 'cold greenhouse' for from December till March. Good luck.

PS., Your posting encouraged me to get another Saribus (was not very nice to an earlier one, once I saw its spines. Ouch!
