Your house isn't inherently ugly, but could use some lipstick. Window boxes full of colorful flowers would be a great addition. Some "foundation" plantings would help as well, be careful not to place them too close to the house.

I know the house needed something, but is such a color as it just overwhelms my mind- thankyou for the suggestions! Would you say white window boxes to go with trim and what flower color do you see?

White window boxes would be great. Go with your favorite color(s) for flowers, the boxes would be really pretty with some trailing white such as alyssum or even petunias, or possibly a variegated ivy combined with a brighter color flower to grab your attention. Roll your recycle bin around the side of the garage so it won't distract.

You might clean it up a bit with some gentle power washing, as long as the paint doesn't come off.

Is that a window ac unit? Also if the ramp is not needed taking it away would change the appearance.

If you can remove the ramp, then perhaps you could put a few flower pots on the steps--in addition to foundation plantings and/or flower boxes.

I think red flowers would go really well with that color. Even good old fashioned, hardy geraniums! Cleaned up a bit and with flowers and landscape work, it will be very cute!

I think its cute as a button. When you can paint how about a soft yellow? In the mean time I agree with everyone else. Red geraniums, red, white and yellow roses will also be beautiful in front. On the left corner of your house plant some holly hocks. They will add height and increase the cottage look. You can also paint your cement porch.

Plant a bush or tree.

I would go with white flower boxes with purple flowers.

Congrats - this is definitely not an ugly house (agree the color can be improved) but this will be a darling cottage when you get settled. Great suggestion about window boxes . . allow me to suggest that you convert about 18' deep of the lawn nearer the house to a cottage landscape . . . plant large evergreen shrubs in a zig zag of three to the left of the left window . . then, flowering shrubs in a zig zag of five or seven under the windows reaching in front of the evergreens to the left, - something that will get around 4' tall, then, bulbs in front of that shifted to the right again . . maybe a row around the little porch and down one side of the stairs .. . so that seasonally you get daffodils or tulips or narcissus . . . and in front of that flowering groundcover that goes to about 18" .. .

I think natural wood window boxes stained dark or wrought iron window boxes would make a nice contrast and add more depth to the front of the house. Will break up all that green and white.

Also change out front door to wood or wood look fiberglass to complement the planters and invest in a full glass storm door in wood tone to match and make the front porch more important so that the natural wood door shows up. Put some greenery in planters to get color in the cool months too.

New light fixture in wrought iron again to add contrast and new bigger numbers for ease of viewing.

Can AC unit be installed on side or back of house?

The roof color is a winner!

This house is similar to your picture in that the roof is same color, one color all over the simple exterior of the house, dark iron planter boxes, wood door, dark light fixture. Plantings are what make this house very inviting and Libradesigns plan would help achieve a lush look to your very darling house!

It is amazing what you can do with a little house like this. I bought a very similar looking house in Idaho and Libra was a lifesaver. In 25 days we changed the whole house including adding a porch. For some reason I could not find my post, but I wish you the best.
