Indoor set-up

Hi all,

I've been growing outdoors the past few years in my hydroponic system. I have finally moved into a house with space that I can set-up indoors for winter. Of course this means that I will need to invest in lighting.

My current system is a modular NFT/DWC, each module consists of 1 - 5 ft long 4" PVC pipe with 9 holes drilled (for the NFT portion), 1 -10 gal plastic tote with holes in the top for 3 pots (DWC portion), and of course the assorted paraphenalia to connect the pump and return water to the reservoir. These can be connected so I get a NFT system of variable length plus 10 gal of reservoir space/ 5 ft of length. So far I haven't tried anything more than 15 ft.

I'm thinking I'll start with just one or two of the NFT portion modules indoors and then expand. Outdoors I've been growing mostly herbs and tomatoes so I'm thinking I'll start with the herbs indoors.

The only available space that is safe from my toddler is in the basement so I will have to get a small heater to keep the nut solution warm enough. Is a standard aquarium heater appropriate or should I consider something different.

So what sort of lighting is good for the beginner to look at? I don't have a huge budget but I don't want to go cheap either, I'd rather pay for the quality that will work and last.

Thanks
