Trimming overgrown Boxwood

Hi,

I have three overgrown Boxwood that I would like to trim down and reshaped after so many years being neglected. The problem is, the inside of these shrubs are balding. The leaves are only on the outer part of the shrub. How far should I trim it down without killing it? Or is it still possible for me to do so? I just want to reshaped into a nice round and give a little space in between. Thank you in advance!
