Find (or build) a parsons table that is as high as the one you have now, but as long as the center window facing east. At each end of the table, place an upholstered, slipcovered parsons chair. (A printed fabric (stripes or a splashy floral) would add interest.) Then, two small upholstered parsons stools could be stored under the table for extra seating. They could be slipcovered in a matching or coordinating fabric. Shallow bookcases (11 inches deep, or so) could be placed at each end of the window; and, a "bridge" piece (shelf or bookcase) could be placed over the window. This would add some interest to the space and provide the reading nook you are looking for. To make the bookcases more interesting, paint the rear walls of the shelves in a contrasting color. I recommend a medium to deep green to continue to bring the outdoors in. Good luck with your redecorating!
