Electron and Moonstone?

last modified: 11 years ago

I'm sorry for spamming, my idea was to post all of these collages in a single post, but apparently that's too heavy for the site.

I think this may be Electron, but it is
not fragrant at all, and it seems less full. It is very mildew-y and very
vigorous. I don't know it's age exactly, but it's at least 17 y/o. It reaches a
height of 2 m approx, and is 1.5 m wide. Sometimes it clusters.

In picture 1 and 2 you can see the green markings on
the outer petals; it very often has them, as if it couldn't decide whether to
make sepals or petals. pic 3 is the full plant, though it is fuller now, it had
just been pruned then.

This one is so lovely! There are so many roses similar
to this though, I can only remember Moonstone's name.

It has no fragrance whatsoever, The prickles are
evenly distributed through the bottom too, leaving the blooms thorn-free. It
tries to climb at a certain height.

Picture 1 shows the yellow undertones which become
more evident as it ages.It cankers and has a small amount of mildew now and
then.

It sometimes has showy sepals (pic 2) and sometimes it
doesn't (pic 3)

Thank you, but isn't Pink Peace even more fragrant than Electron? This plant is pretty well established and it has no scent at all. That's why I wasn't very sure it was Electron either, it's just a guess.

yes, Pink Peace is very fragrant and it doesn't look like PP to me. What does the fully open bloom look like? PP is fully double.

With variances on how a camera takes pictures ... I think Electron and Pink Peace look alike except for certain periods of their bloom. Please take pictures of it fully bloomed out too. I have both plants and I think they might coordinate bloom time in the next couple of days. (Electron above)

My Pink Peace (own root) has little scent.

Scent is relative, but my Pink Peace would fill my office with the fragrance from one bloom. It was my favorite rose, I say was, because I lost it several years ago. I did get another one this spring from Roses Unlimited, but it is not blooming at this time.

I wish I could show you a good pic of it fully fledged, but the heat has rendered most of the blooms single, deformed, and burnt. Here's the only one almost decent. It has a high-centered shape. Do either Electron or PP present the green markings often? There is one pic on hmf where Electron seems to have them.

It's not Electron. Electron has more of an almost unnatural bright fluorescent pink color. Also Electron blooms tend to be exceptionally big.

Here's some pics from yesterday of my Electron.

Mine is only a year or two old and bought a home improvement store as grafted, so overall, maybe 3-4 years old?

If that bud bloom is kinda salmon-y pink, light pink, then it does not look like my Electron. My Pink Peace will bloom in a week or two, so I can do a side by side of bloom, maybe.

Electron is HOT pink with a bluish undertone. Electric like the name. And mine is anything BUT vigorous! I also don't recall ever seeing green or white streaks on the petals. Pink Peace has that VERY thin white edge to the petals usually and it's a more yellow based pink. Warmer than Electron. I have Voluptuous which looks similar to yours, however, there are MANY bright pink ones it could be.

That second one is not Moonstone either. That pink edge is too deep and well defined. Moonstones is more of a blushed edge usually. And my Moonstone is never a cream color but always white white. Besides that the form is wrong. Moonstone is more globular.

Take a look at Kordes Perfecta, but here again, there are a number of other roses yours could be.

The color on that bloom was a deeper pink, like the one on the first pic, it's just the lighting that made it look softer, it was also smaller and less full than usual because of the heat.

Still, I think that in more benevolent temperatures it's big, but not something "remarkably" big...

Yeah, it's not Pink Peace, coutrygirl_sc, it doesn't have the white edging and is not as full.

The buds, the prickles, the color look right, msdorkgirl, but the blooms look way fuller than mine. Does it cluster often or have the big, hooked prickles on the undersides of leaves?

Since Voluptuous was introduced in 2005 I doubt that's it, this bush has been here for longer, I think, besides the fact that the blooms are well, more voluptuous.

And Kordes Perfecta seems to have some sort of cherry red tones at times, judging from hmf. This guy's edges are always distinctively pink. The shape of the blooms is reminiscent, but I think somewhat spikier, and they are way bigger than this one's have ever been.

I'll measure, but our temps probably don't match (I'm in Hawaii). My Electron does not cluster, it is one bud per stem usually. I would say it's a good size bloom, it's slightly smaller than my Legends which is huge.

    Here's a picture in February 2015:
