Annette, thanks for posting that photo. I've never grown that one, and the pods are thicker than I thought they would be. How does the flavor compare to other wax beans you have tried?

Weather here has been hot & humid, and everything in the garden is growing like crazy - but we have yet to hit 90 F. degrees. Thunder storms every other day, so I've only been in the garden once in the past week... and that was to pull some garlic & pick drying pea pods before the next rainfall.

Zeedman, wax beans I have to admit have not been a favorite of mine
in the past, that is until I grew Barksdale, They're a little too mild in
the taste department in most cases for me but GNM are comparable to
Barksdale, picked young strings aren't a problem.

Hubby thinks he
can detect a hint of mushroom flavor but I haven't so far maybe it's a
different mushroom than I've eaten.... now that I think of it maybe if
my memory serves me right a similar taste to chanterelles sauted in
butter, it's been awhile LOL.

I just put half a dozen in the pot
to try as a full bean.... hey they didn't turn out half bad, after
removing the strings they turned out to very tender, with a mild buttery
flavor with a hint of sweetness.

As to the color of the beans in
the above picture, it must have been the lighting as they're really more of a
pale creamy yellow. Picture of the seed below, have you got this one in your stash :).

The seeds don't look like anything I have, other than being brown... and those seeds are wider & flatter than Tisa. There are quite a few brown seeded wax beans, but I chose early on to focus mainly on wax beans with seed colors other than brown or white. I've been re-thinking that decision, since there are several I would like to try; but I've pretty much got my hands full just preserving those I already have. I'm re-growing Blue Blockeye this year.

We have had several 90+ F days and it is interesting to see which beans thrive. Grandma Nellie's looks like a winner.

All the seed has been collected and the pole pulled so it looks like a bean that can take some heat, also a good one for a short growing season.
