Happy worms breed, keep a good ph and ample food, good temp, good moisture time is the biggest thing. Cocoons take a month to hatch, then 6 weeks for the juvenile worms to start breeding, but as they multiply the population will grow faster and faster. I started with 250 adult euros and would guess now i have 10,000 in 4 plastic tubs and it only took about a year

It seems like the bin conditions are already optimal for that bin setup, and my only real option for improving breeding speed would be to shift the worms into a smaller bin and increase population density that way.

I'm thinking the cocoons are very delicate, and it would be easy to kill or break them by disturbing the bin contents to sort out worms.* I want to speed things up, but not at cost of destroying some of the existing creatures. Is there a way to make the worms come to me so I don't have to go digging for them?

*: Incidentally, I've noticed the casts in the bottom of the bin seem to be very firm and dense, almost as if they've been compacted. It's not interfering with the worms, they crawl into and out of them just fine. They're damp but not sodden. Is it normal for the casts to be like that, or is this a sign of a developing problem that just hasn't screwed up my worms YET?

There is a post here somewhere about placing yummy food, like baked sweet potato, in a mesh bag. The worms migrate to the bag then you can pick up the bag 'o worms to a new location. Have not tried it yet myself but was impressed with the concept.

I'm no expert but I do know that they breed when happy. Give them some corn based food and they'll rut like rabbits, is my thinking.

Keep the major pests out, don't let your bins dry out entirely, or get too hot up there in Georgia, and make sure that they don't accidently turn into swimming pools if we have a major storm. That's about all I have to offer on the topic. Most common ways that I have wiped out my worms. OH!! And never ever feed them any thermal paper receipts or copies ever.
