Hawaiian orchids

I'm on vacation in Kauai Hawaii now and seeing orchids everywhere. Mostly tied to trees for decoration but I've seen a couple growing naturally.

Arudina graminifolia I see growing everywhere along highways like a weed.

Tall slender plants about 6' tall and 8" wide.

Another plant I see everywhere is Spathoglottis plicata.

I will get some better pictures later, The Arudina I took from the car window with my phone camera.

Does anyone know any vendors on Kauai, so far I've only seen bagged seedlings at the airport , 2 for $12, but they dont have tags. I found a place called Kauai Orchids but their phone is disconnected.

Here is a better picture of the Spathoglottis

Here are some Vandas, usually people say the roots like to hang free. These have all of their roots clinging to the tree

The roots run up the tree about 6 or 7 feet.

Here are a couple dends tied together

The only plant I've seen for sale so far were some no ID plants at the supermarket like we see at Trader Joe's. I'm visiting a Botanical Garden later maybe they will have something.

Thanks for sharing the pictures. I have not been to Kauai nor do I order from any vendors on that island. Hopefully someone know about an orchid vendor. Are you staying on Kauai for your entire vacation?

I was on the big island for 2 day, the rest of the time was on Kauai.

I was at the National Botanical Garden yesterday, most of their plants weren't labeled.

Here are some terrestrials, 2 Spatoglottis and a Calanthe furcata

They had lots of Vandas, none labeld and none in flower. They all seemed to be growing in more shaded areas then I would expect. They had old spikes on them so I know they flowered a some point.

And my daughters getting bored of looking for orchids
