As I had never heard of it I went digging - with little results unfortunately for that name. Only a couple of second and third string vendors even offering the seeds it appears and with no documented history on any of the common tomatobases.

So I am wondering if it isn't just a made up name - someone's unknown black they just named Black Mystery and then traded them or offered them for sale with that name. Unknowns creep into the system that way.

OR if it isn't really Dice's Mystery Black, a real documented since 2007 variety or Marcia's Mystery Black which is noted as a "stray seed of Black Sea Man" and named and introduced in 2014 by the Sample Seed Shop. In either case it would be difficult to find anyone else that has grown it.

Thanks for that information. Actually, I think the seeds are from The Sample Seed Shop last year. I checked pics of both of the varieties and it's neither one of them. It is so much like Black Plum that I am just about convinced that it is. The package definitely says Black Mystery.

The word "Mystery" tells me that it is an orphan, with no family background.

So just take it as it is. If you like it, then grow it again as : Mystery Joe, the tomato. hehe.
