RIck,thanks for that, I won't worry about it then. I may bring it out of the greenhouse and put it in my kitchen window where it will get sun but be cooler. Another question if I may. I like the way these plants are grown where they are not branched and just have straight stalks from the trunk. Do you know how this is achieved. Is it just a case of removing any branching? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Your plant has such a nice shape.

Averil, it seems that with the Arabicums & many forms of Thai Soco's that the branching off of the caudex on a horizontal plain is the way they grow. Of course some seedlings may prove different.

They branch out off of the terminal growth later and some do prune out central branches for shape.

Rick, thanks your a mine of info. I think on reflection because it's a miniature it's best left alone. I am now going to try and get seeds that will grow into the larger version

For what it's worth Averil, my Arabicums also have few leaves and those they do manage to grow are tougher and more leathery in texture, are often stuck together and end up being marked or even deformed slightly. I'll get some pics tomorrow as its late evening now in our part of the globe folks! They also seem to be growing in one plane and with no branching.

I love the dark caudex on your plant. I agree with Gill, my arabicums have few leaves also. I think your baby is going to be one gorgeous plant as it gets bigger. Thank you for sharing your photo.

Hi Averil, here are some Arabicum pics for you......they are of the Bouquet variety and from seeds that Rick kindly gifted to me.

In the pic below it may not be that clear but the left hand plant does show branches growing in most directions but the centre and right hand plants only have arms in just one plane!

The left one has 5 really bulbous branches and looks very different to the other two. Guess they don't look so leafless really but this is the best they've looked and are different to my obesums. The leaves often get damaged and grow deformed as if glued together when emerging.

Martin, I certainly hope they all 'go forth and prosper' for me especially #1 with it's big bulging bicep branches, lol!!

I'm hoping they put on a lot more girth at some point as I admire those with the very wide caudexes. Their style of growth is quite different to the obesums I find. Flowers on any of my DR's are just a bonus for me whatever type they are.

Gill, keep pruning The BBB ("Bulging Biceps Branching") Adenium and you will end up with your own special MM ("Michelin Man") Adenium. I see a future profit in this. You could take BBB-cuttings, make grafts and sell The MM Adeniums worldwide! ;-)

Hi Gill, thanks for the post and the pics of your arabicums. I particularly like the one on the left. He's a really chunky monkey eh? They're all lovely and smooth looking. My plant looks like it's wearing an outfit that's too big for it. A bit like one of those sad dogs lol. I shall just crack on and let it do its own thing (which I have no doubt it will anyways). I know it's hard to believe but it's sunny in Wiltshire today!
