I think a nice picture right over the stove would be nice. Any artwork that your family has done or perhaps a family photo. You have plenty of space up there so don't worry about blowing it up!

You could add a barnwood shelf from window to window and rest metal items - say metal stars in different sizes, overlapping each other. I also think roman blinds would complete that wall.

How about two reclaimed wood shelves --placed off center and one higher than the other.

None of that combustible shelf stuff would even be fire safe. The current installation isn't even fire safe and should immediately be red tagged!. It's sitting on a combustible wood floor for goodness sake! You need to have this improper installtion addressed ASAP! I can't believe that a contractor would even do this! The floor under the stove out to 18'' beyond and the wall behind to 18'' above the thimble needs to be noncombustible. Your insurance agent would have a heart attack if she saw that. And immediately cancel you.

Get a contractor in there immediately who can rectify that fire hazard!

I would suggest a clock for the vintage style you have going with the shutters and the stove, and valances over the windows to tie them in to the rug colors and complete the window decor. Ethan Allen School House Wall clock in a natural wood finish or the White Worn Wall Clock would be good options scale wise.

I would install an electrical fireheater, inside the white frame, or build a brick wall behind this stove.

Was there once a regular wood burning fireplace there that has been closed off? I think that mantle and surround is a giveaway. Are you open to doing something different such as taking the white surround down?

Taking a second look, really not bad just the way it is. But I would vote for nothing at all above it. Just do great window treatments. And the little clock needs a new spot away from the window.

Read your stove's manual. You need a non combustible surface as well as a foil faced insulation blanket behind the snorkel.

Hi Everyone. It's a new construction home. We designed the wall behind the stove this way. Now we're just stuck with what to put above the stove area. We put faux wood blinds on the windows and are concerned that we don't have enough room for curtains with the tv in the corner. In terms of the safety of the install, everything was done to code and per the installation instructions. No snorkel necessary with its current installation.

I really like the first Roman shades (cream with accent trim) that Carol Singletary posted. Those don't require any stacking room.

What do your other walls look like? Just asking because I really think that nothing above this one is best. Maybe put your wall decor wants elsewhere in the room.
