Does not freeze more than once every 10 years or so, but most garlic enjoys a good chilling imho. I grow garlic in 18" pots and have very good luck. They sit with a SW exposure on the concrete at the end of my carport. I believe the warmth of the concrete slab is the thing that makes them so very happy.

I'm going to experiment with growing some of them in large pots, particularly the bulbils. It is so easy to get the bulbils lost in the field.

When temp drops very low, I may bring the pots into unheated shed. I do not know if this makes any difference. Shed is also very cold at night...
