Landscaping Advice

We recently moved into a home with landscaping that needs a lot of work. The landscaping in front of the house consists of approximately 35 feet of creeping phlox, wild daisies, some type of variegated vine, and ferns. To date, I have dug up over 100 ferns and still have at least that many left. Does anyone have any suggestions as to the best way to eliminate the ferns so that they do not return? I keep finding new ones and I'm getting very frustrated! The other plants should be easy to dig up and relocate / eliminate.

The ferns are the least of your problems if the variegated vine you mentioned is Vinca major. I am a landscaper and have fought Vinca major in many, many landscapes over the years. Round Up doesn't even kill it and the smallest portion that stays in the ground will resprout and attempt a major coup the next season.

Try brush killer, Douglas.

Ultimately that's exactly what I did. I prefer Glyphosphate ( Round Up ) whenever possible. It has far less of a residual effect and isn't nearly as likely to " drift " as most broadleaf weed killers. It's far from perfect, but in my estimation it's better than the alternatives.

Why is Roundup less likely to drift than most other broad leaf weed killers?As long as the pressure is the same they should be the same droplet size. Mist means too much pressure.

You say Roundup doesn't even kill it, so why stick with it? Use a brush killer and get rid of it if you want to do that. You're a pro, you don't want to keep coming back to do the job. That's not cost effective at all.
