I like Brandi's idea for a hanging lantern in the hallway. I would make sure there is one inside too that you can see through the arched window and also lanterns where the hanging plants are now. Although gorgeous, I don't think the plants are helping matters. You could have potted plants under the lanterns.

If the door can be painted, I would consider painting it white or bright yellow and place a larger bright colored horizontal stripe rug in front of the door, red or yellow. I might change out the planters (place on ground instead) and add two large coach lights there instead and I would paint the front door, sidelight and trim all white to brighten the space and then for color, add a long indoor/outdoor runner, a bench and colorful pillows. Not sure what porch's roof is, but perhaps that could be painted a light grey/white and add a great chandelier.

I'd paint the door white. Not the sidelight, sidelight should match trim color, which looks to be beige(?) take the hanging flowers down, they're too large and close in the space. Get an indoor/outdoor runner style rug that has a lot of white in it. OMG just read Maureen's suggestions. So agree with Maureen

Thank you everyone. I think I'm going to try a mirror on the long wall, some planters on the ground, taking the hanging plants down (or at least one of them) and getting a long runner type rug. If that doesn't do the trick, I will paint the door.
