any way to adding a french drain of some sort... or simply dig a small swale line that drains the water out to a lower area? I had a dip in an area of the lawn years back.. and all i had to do was cut a line in the sod... remove a few inches of soil underneath it.. and let the sod fall back. Now when it rains, it just drains out.

I agree with the above statement....but if money or time doesn't allow for the french drain, the next best thing would be to add a water loving tree or shrub. Not sure of how large the area is.

I had an area in my back yard that was soft/moist all the time. I planted a shagbark river birch tree about 15 years ago. The tree has grown well past my expectations, and is huge. Grew really fast due the moisture levels. The area is no longer saturated either.
There are other moisture loving trees shrubs that would also do well/thrive in that area for you. Depending on the area/size will determine what you plant.
