Need help with range/oven pick

Hi. I am building a house and trying to pick appliances. I had a 36 in Wolf and Thermador wall oven/warming drawer/micro combo in my last home. Loved them but did have some issues with the Thermador trio. In the new house I am debating between (and trying to afford) going with a 60 in or 36 inch with the wall oven addition? Thoughts?

Also -- I was thinking wolf or Miele for the 36? I do not really care for the modern look of the Miele range but I worry about wolf and the damn blue chipping. Best 36 in range? Best wall oven? They dont have to be the same - but I would like them to have a common feel in the kitchen.

Finally -- 60 in range? Love the wolf but its so darn pricey. Anyone have experience with Capital or American Range? I worry with the lesser knowns. Other options?

THANK YOU MUCH in advance for any and all feedback. Im going crazy with the options.

I would recommend the 36" and the oven IMHO. More flexible in what you can do in terms of ovens (1 gas and 1 electric, best of both worlds!). 60" ranges are way overpriced. I have sold 2 36" ranges in their place a few times for similar or even less money!

The mieles are new. Miele is the type of company that develops something for years before bringing it to market, but there will always be some kinks on new products. I would give them some time and let someone else be the test case!

Wolf's gas range is a solid piece, if a little underpowered in the burner department. No blue ovens in those, so no issues. I like Capital a lot. We do very well with their product and the engineering is solid. MCOR366 is the 25k open burner with a giant oven. Solid value.

So if I go 36 in range - what do you think about wall oven? There is a wolf E series for $2500 which I am debating buying (even though I wont be ready for appliances until December or so... Should I be worried about blue there or have they remedied the problem?

I love the wall oven with the smaller speed cook/micro combo oven on top. Thoughts?

    THANK YOU!!!!!

They have the M series oven that has been redesigned with a separate bottom piece that is hopefully going to fix the issue. The E and DF ranges have not been redesigned.

"Online research - found there is or has been issues with the blue porcelain cracking and ultimately chipping in duel fuel ovens. Realized that those with this issue are justifiably vocal online. Realized that in some cases when I thought I was reading about 10 people and 10 ovens I was really reading about one or two people re-telling the same story"

    ____

i have been very vocal on this forum but there have been others with this issue here. Not too long ago someone asked about buying a Wolf DF with the chipped porcelain I have only posted a couple other reviews on vendor sites but google it and there are others. read the Consumers Affairs website there are also two class action lawsuits about this and lawyers don't work unless they get paid. If you look back before the middle of 2013 I was a huge fan of my Wolf DF. I recommended it on this and other forums for much longer than I have warned against it

You can take a wild guess about what the incidence is but we really have no idea. The interesting thing is that some people with wall ovens had 2-3 ovens in a row that all developed blue chipping. In my conversation with my repair people they seem to make this repair and could give the usual time frame and they seemed to have recent experience

"Called Wolf - Discussed specifically the blue porcelain issue. Was told this was an issue several years ago with a particular supplier and that issue has been resolved"

    ____

If you look back at threads here, they will say this. And yet there are threads here that ask "Is there anyone that hasn't had chipping." or " is chipping a recent issue." which was the end of last year.

"Wolf told me that if I have an issue with my oven they would work with me whether it is in warranty or not. I have no idea what "work with me" means and hopefully I do not have to find out."

    ______

I will say this. We bought Wolf because of their supposed service. We were told we would not need an extended warranty. Wolf would stand behind their appliances. I can tell you what "Working with you" means. You will have to negotiate what they will do. This varies. Maybe you'll get lucky. They will try to get you to pay for the whole thing. In my case after haggling back and forth, they would provide the part and a small part of the labor. They however won't tell you what the labor will be (starts at $800) and the new part is only guaranteed for a year. The idea of having to reinvest this kind of money every couple of years is not acceptable. If it is such a scarce problem for them, why don't they make it right for the people who have had the issues and then guarantee the repair? People with an E oven who wanted to have the new M which was redesigned had to pay $2000 to get an oven that supposedly was fixed If they were sincere about wanting customers to be truly satisfied as stated on their website, they would fix and stand behind this issue. Instead they are making money on it. They are very friendly though.

"I think that was an issue several years ago and has been resolved. I don't think we get many if any blue porcelain calls anymore". He stated that most of their calls are due to user error and if he could give me one piece of advice it would be to read every word of the manual."

    ______

He is the service manager and he doesn't think he gets many calls anymore? I would think he would know. There is nothing like blaming the victim for their problem. I followed the use and care exactly. If you have ever read my posts here about ovens I say to read the use and care in most of them so you can understand how your oven works and take care of it properly.

They are all very nice when you talk to them.

Do you have any recommendations for other brand of wall oven? My ideal would be to do a wall oven and then a smaller microwave/speed oven on top of that. I like the option of using the microwave for more than just a microwave. The salesman was BIG on the miele but I would like another option as the Miele is very modern looking and we are building on 10 acres.

I think no matter what I am good with the Wolf 36 in Gas range as there are no blue issues there.

THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL THE INSIGHT!!!

A friend of mine called an appliance store in Georgia to inquire about the blue porcelain chipping in DF ranges. The salesman told her that he had a customer that needed their blue liner replaced within the last 60 days. Wolf replaced the liner at no cost and the range was outside of warranty. The customer had the range at least two years. The problem still exists. You take a gamble hoping your range doesn't chip.

The salesman is big on Miele because it is an extremely good oven. I don't see what the acreage has to do with the style of a single appliance.

I really, really wanted the Wolf df, but will not take a gamble on the blue porcelain chipping, I am going to take a chance on the Miele 48" df. I realize it's new and there are basically no reviews on it, but I have confidence in Miele products. We have had favorable experience with their customer service, and think (hope) it will work well for us.

" Wolf replaced the liner at no cost and the range was outside of warranty.

it is kind of strange to me that they seem to randomly choose when they will provide service. They have complaints on FB and they ignore most of them but they occasionally they will tell someone that they will fix their out of warranty appliance. it is also odd that right in the middle of a thread that talks about the blue enamel they never acknowledge it, they just chime in with the same thing, "I’m ____ and I work with Sub-Zero and Wolf. We understand how overwhelming the kitchen remodeling process can be. If you haven't already done so, we..."

Thank you for comments. The Miele is a little modern for my farm type house (the acreage) so any other suggestions are much appreciated. Or if you just think Miele is best that is great too and I would love to hear it.
Interested in ideas about the best wall oven brand that may also have a speed oven/micro as well.
It's hard as one salesman loved Miele and another loves another brand. Feel like I am on my own when shopping so the feedback on this site is great! At least the people that are nice about it.

Wekick....... I got a good laugh when I read your last comment above. Especially how subzero employees chime in on posts about the chipping. That is so true! I always thought it was strange as well.

soloman5....Would you be interested in the Wolf All Gas? I have that range. I love it!! I also have a Wolf Pro M series wall oven with a steam oven and a warming drawer. I like having the all gas range with an electric wall oven.

Soloman5....,one more item.....I prefer the steam oven instead of a microwave to heat up food. I have a microwave that I keep in the pantry. My DH and I use it only to warm up a cup of tea, coffee, or soup. We chose not to take up valuable kitchen space with a microwave. The steam oven heats up the food with moisture. It works great!

I have a thermador range with electric oven. Range works well, electric oven has never worked well.
