depends what kind of a look you want. You could whitewash the brick and paint the heater black for a dramatic look.

when you say "make this heater transform into a fireplace?" do you mean that you want a more traditional, propane fireplace? - or change just the heater/fireplace unit to something that uses a different fuel source? What is your style? There are many options for free standing propane fireplaces that run the style gamut from contemporary, to mid century, to traditional.

What's on the outside, namely, chimney or just a metal duct?

Amanda, you haven't moved in yet, I think another of your posts said Friday.... You've got some feedback on foyer and this room. Now you are ready to commit to tan. Why don't you stick with one of your multiple posts and have a continuous thread since the LR, FP and foyer are all connected. I believe you will a more cohesive response from Houzz if you avoid multiple posts. Of course when you move o nto another space, say the kitchen, start a new post. But I think you have 5 going on now for this space- lost count.

I can't really tell but does the entry transition from tile to linoleum? If so, I would spend the money on installing one flooring throughout the main level and wait on replacing the doors or revamping the fireplace. I would also remove the wallpaper before painting the adjoining rooms.

Remove all of the stuff around it and then post another picture. I think that it looks cute as it is now...minus the stuff.

Amanda Quinn - I'M excited about your house. The more I see it, the more I love it. There are so many cool features. Do you have more pictures? Not sure how much you want to take on but I would consider removing the popcorn ceiling before moving in (it's extremely messy and the dust gets EVERYWHERE). Are you wanting to improve the fireplace surround or replace the actual mechanics?

I want it to look like a fireplace and not a stove type. Not sure if they make inserts but I want the Christmas type fireplace to hang stockings on. It's propane and we're not changing that aspect of it. We also picked out new carpet and flooring last night. Brazilian cherry for the entryway and kitchen/dinning room and carpet for the living room.

Also, not removing popcorn ceiling, going to leave that for now. I will have more pictures once all the current owners stuff is out. (Tomorrow hopefully) thanks for the input. I greatly appreciate it!!!!
