9vs10 ft ceeling

I have a ? on ceeling height in regards to room size.Our first floor is 24x42,mudroom,stairs,kitchen and living room are in this floor,kitchen/dining and living room all run together,kitchen will have sheetrock ceeling,the living area is 15x24 and we are thinking about leaving the floor joist exposed,trying to decide on ceeling height.

No logic about,it's a design element we like.

If you're doing the floor joists exposed, then I would probably make the ceiling 10' high with the joists dropping to 9'.

My only hang up is the duct work,it will more than likely run perpendicular to the joist,so 10 ft might be better because of the duct hanging down,I think one run of duct should be enough for a 16 by 24 room.Im have to get with some ac guys this week.

There are many other issues to consider. Is there a basement? Is there an attic? If so, you could avoid building a false floor for the ducts

There is going to be a attic over the second floor,no basement,I like the real joists showing so I want to avoid a glade floor look.

10 ft would be cool but the more I think about it doing 9 ft on both floors might be the best option.Than I can use standard doors,windows etc.The house is only 1000 sf per floor.
