Go for it, BUT...be sure to prepare the tree for the journey to your home. If it's just too large to to manage, you can gently prune, but you can save the whole tree, and it will thank you for it.

If it's any distance to your house, tie the branches up tightly, and then wrap them with a tarp (don't use plastic sheeting unless you're transporting after sundown) to protect it from the wind. The wind can burn the leaves faster than you'd believe. Next water the tree. If the potting soil is loose (I doubt it, sounds like it's rootbound), then take damp newspaper, wad it up, cover the surface of the soil and then secure it, either with rope or tape it on with packing tape across the top of the pot. If you have a pickup truck, lay it down, don't try to keep it upright. Do this, and it will never know it was moved.

Awww sad...he/she had someone to come pick it up right on Saturday (while I had to ask for a "hold" b/c I still needed to figure out help with a truck and a strong man, LOL) There's a smaller white genoa but I wasn't keen on the genoa. Man, I still feel sad for missing that 10 yr old tree deal - it could look really handsome as a large bonsai.
