New vinyl won't be a 'grouted grid' look? like current has? If so I would re-consider grey grout cause it would seem a second grid look….

I would go with a modern mosaic - I just did my backsplah in my small kitchen from a large tile to a small retacular. The dimension are so much better.

The Ideas are endless. choose a good quality and dont to a traditional subway tile, if choose a glass one instead.

White tiles that offer either visual or physical texture will stay in tune with your white theme but add interest without overpowering any of the other components. We see smaller subway tiles (2x4) becoming much more popular than the super-sized ones (4x8), and there are some great options that offer a visual texture if you want something easy to clean. There are a number of ceramic and porcelain tiles that look like natural stone that incorporate grays and whites to tie your space together - you get the high variety and visual interest of stone without the cost or maintenance. (2x4 subway shown below)

Good to know that smaller tiles are an option. I was worried smaller would shrink my space, or be too busy?! Thanks for your comment.
