Need help pulling things together!

I'm having trouble getting this room feeling the way I want. I'm my head I want it to feel like something sort of men's clubby. With a midcentury vibe. The ottomans and tall light can go & maybe the orange doesn't work with the blue? I'm open to suggestions!!!

Love the complimentary colors, blue and orange. Can you move the off white chair to a bedroom or other room? Paint color could be a neutral, say taupe. You could use a dark wood screen next to tv for ambience!

I could also see about reupholstering the chair in the room now. That is a possibility. I have some sort of chair problem - we have a couple of cool chairs that I've bought randomly around the house.

We are planning on getting rid of that particular light, but I like the idea of a tall light there.

The chair is the problem. The color and scale is wrong for your room. If you can swing it get an Eames chair. They run about $800 but you might find one on amazon or ebay. Or find a chair similar in scale and style. This room has all the colors that will look great in your room.

I think the side tables are your problem...think something smaller on one side with the floor lamp behind it. Then on the other side perhaps a smaller square table with one of the pouffs under it. The pillows need to have some cream in them to balance the cream chair and the cream chair can then have the other pouff I front of it to the side with an orange pillow on it. I will try to find pics now...

Once the floor lamp is out of that corner, move in the cream chair with the pouff, stack some art on the wall maybe a basket on the floor for books. The sofa just needs some freshening up with cool pillows, think texture...

Or you could leave the lamp behind the chair but add a small table and art with it to make it a grouping.

I think when you referred to men's clubby in your post - the commentor doesn't realize there is a difference between it and a man's cave...so I wouldn't take offense - they were offering ideas for the wall. Your room is well on its way and much nicer than many rooms that are being asked for help. Sift through suggestions but it comes down to your taste and budget and they are meant to trigger your ideas. Going back to your room, instead of purchasing a new chair, you could try a smaller pillow that has rust/orange/teal, and move the chair and ottoman in front of the lamp (I like the lamp - I would save the money and buy a coffee table). You just need different pillows on the couch, lamps and a few accessories. You may not need to do anything to the wall once the chair and lamp are in place to balance with the tv, but painting it may be an idea. Your room is almost there, it just needs jewellery. Good luck.

The colors are great. The floor lamp competes with the chandelier. Go with a brass reading light instead and add a chair to that corner.

Wow, lots to digest! Thank you so

much for the comments. I truly appreciative the feedback.

Here is a quick shot with a different chair. Maybe the scale is better? The lights aren't centered, but I'll add a shot of the whole space later. Sorry it is a bit messy.

I do have a mask collection from traveling. That might work on the wall, but I think I have about 6-7 masks.

Here are some picture pre-furnishing. I'll post more later since I have added furniture since then. It is a big space, and will be our family room. The bar is to the right of the tv/sofa. The fireplace needs to be painted at least (the brick isn't attractive and the mortar is nicotine stained yellow).

I love how the lights look in the room, even though they don't seem to photograph well.

Sorry Lee the wing back chair is better but the style is wrong and the color is wrong. Now the chair is too massive. But my be compensated by adding tall table lamps on your end tables or an arc floor light. Great you have a collection of masks. Have you tried grouping them on the tv wall similar to the photo in a previous post? I think they will add a lot of personality in the room. You have a great space.

Jean, I haven't tried the masks yet. We moved here last year and have done a lot of renovating. This room was pretty bad before. Thanks Jean, I agree that the Eames chair would work very well, I've just never personally been crazy about that chair.

Celerygirl, I've bookmarked many of the same rooms! I also really like that coffee table, but we might want something more comfortable for the family room.

Maureen, I very much like your idea of finding a pillow that contains orange and teal. This is the most colorful room I've ever had in my life, so mixing the two colors is pretty outside of my comfort zone, but I think you're right that I need something that combines the two colors.

Flair lighting, I've been thinking of something like one these for this room for some time.

Thank you for your input Riverside Design, I admit I bought the side tables because they were a good price and matched the console. I have so much in my house that isn't matching - I thought I'd try matching. They do feel somewhat big, but the couch is pretty big as well.

How is the space in front of the fireplace being used?

Er612, I'll post a photo later but not much is going on there.

What if I got back to the light colored chair, add a pillow with a lighter background + teal and orange to the couch and maybe add a Mongolian lamb stool or ottoman? Would that add enough light to the space to balance it out? I know the wall is still an issue.

I also have an ottoman that might add some lighter color but the pattern might not work - it is one of those Missoni for Target ottomans.

You're on the right track, but a couple of things don't quite work here. Love the rug and the curtains, but think the curtains need to be hung wider on the window so they cover more of the wall.

Great as your media cabinet is, it's a tiny bit short. This will be less apparent if you lower the TV so it's just a few inches above. The sculptures need to be moved elsewhere (maybe one of the side tables) and everything else on top of the cabinet needs to go inside. I would either center the whole thing on that wall, or put it more off center and fill the rest of the wall with large art or something to balance the wall.

The white chair works better than the wing chair, but isn't quite right. It would be better with a smaller neater pillow, I think.

I love all of your choices so far! I would do only one side table by the couch. Two is overpowering. keep the one in the corner between the chair and the couch. Another thing would be maybe either try one poof near the lamp and a leggy, airy, coffees table or a acrylic coffee table with the poofs under it. These are just a couple minor things. I truely love all your choices!

Here is the wall next to the fireplace and some of the masks I have which it could hang around the tv perhaps. I should have at least 3-4 more. And a random ottoman. I do want to order a basket or stool to hide the air conditioning cover under the table.

Dumb question- ok to run the lamp cord under the rug?

Here are some pillow ideas to help get the mix right. I'm sort of regretting the teal lamb fur one, but I don't think my daughter will give it up. I'm really, really terrible at picking out pillows. And I've shyed away from lighter pillows on the couch because I felt like they made the leather look worn in a bad way.

You could start hanging the masks over the table which would have the pieces which are now on the credenza .

It makes a bigger statement when all the pieces are together plus it tells a story
