If you are coming in with no furniture I would suggest looking at overstock.com. They have great prices, excellent service and loads of options. I have used them a lot. Your area is small are you going to separate with dining and living also? How about TV? Do you have one, how big and is there a designated cable outlet where it needs to go in the room? Answer those for me and I can do a floor plan for you and suggest some furniture.

Width of the entire room is 15 ft. It is divided into two sections -- the area near the fireplace is 10'8" long and the area near the dining table is 12'6" long. It's pretty small. I think I am going to put a TV in a similar spot (and don't use cable, so just need a plug). I also want a dining room table and living space with at least a single couch. Overstock is a good choice too!

This plan is pretty simplistic. The rooms are small so don't want to overcrowd. I put in sofa, table with lamp, chair and accent table. Leave the TV in the corner. Get a console that fits and as long as TV doesn't hang over the edges it's fine. Throwing the cabinet size vs tv size out the door on this one. A floor lamp in corner behind chair. Do not put sofa in front of FP, not enough room. In dining area I put a table for 4, rug and console table. I hate having the dining room when you walk in the house and we might consider using switching areas. Lots of dining rooms have a FP and if you don't do a lot of entertaining for dinners, might work out. What do you think? Let me give it a try.

The additional square footage makes the front room a better location for a dining table; to susan's point, using a round, rather than square, table can help when the room is doubling as entrance. Adding vertical, rather than buffet storage in the dining room, along with strong wall art, will also help with a more transitive look.
