Remaking wall unit to house larger TV

I have a 20 year-old custom designed wall unit that houses our TV and decorative objects. We would like to get a much larger flat screen TV, but are currently limited by the TV opening in the wall unit. The unit was made in 6 pieces. We would like to remove the top 3 pieces, leavi the 3 lower cabinets, which are a total of 128" wide. The unit is made of maple and purpleheart wood with birdseye maple inlays on the tops of the 2 side units.
The 2 side units are each 40" wide x 19" deep. The center unit is 48" wide x 33" deep. The center unit does not have a decorative inlay, as it was covered by the TV. Will it look weird to have different top treatments? Should I remove the center and have a narrower TV cabinet? Should I put a stone top over all 3 sections to tie it together?
I would appreciate suggestions. Thanks.
