Looks really good...

Unfortunately, a vole or something else got to it first.

So upsetting. There are others on the plant with similar bites. I'm going to have to find something to cover the unripened and so far un-bitten tomatoes.

3 or 4 small unripe ones left on the plant and I put some black plastic mesh expandable tubing around them. There were 2 ripe ones half eaten and I debated with myself if I should leave them there for the critter to polish off so to leave the others alone or if I should remove them so the critter moves along. I left them.... So far the peanut butter in my mouse traps has been ignored.

Sey, yes it is a delicious tomato and has overtaken Black Krim as my favorite.

PC, thank you for the seed saving explanation. I've saved seeds for a few years and never even considered that tomatoes could cross... I saved seeds from a delicious melon last year and planted a couple of seeds this year and got an obvious cross.

Ugh... well it's just a first. Did you out them out at the same time as your Rose PL? On the bright side, it looks like it left you enough for a taste.

I planted it at the same time as the Rose. For some reason the voles LOVE the Ananas Noir. The other tomatoes are left alone more or less. I'm going to save the seeds from this one since it is large and the first. I can't eat it... too many teeth marks, gross.

Lol... it's tough to tell for sure from the pic, but I'd slice off that nice looking front lobe... it looks tasty! Congrats, and death to the voles!! Well, or at least an August in the country for them....

No, no I cannot eat this one. Several others--smaller--were sampled by the vole ( or rat!!!) and, I've never done this but I was reading that seeds should be taken from several tomatoes for some genetic reason. I'm going to do that rather then try to eat any, I won't enjoy them. Dang, my favorite tomato..... It is rather sweet, must be the attraction.

You can do couple of thinks (1) pick them at color break and bring them inside. (2) Wrap them with fine nylon tulle. The animals should avoid getting the tulle tangled on them.

BTW: I am also growing AN, for the second time. I think it is one of the tastiest tomatoes that I know. Maybe the voile test proves that.

rhoder, Really tough break and yes, it's a good idea to save seed from different plants, and different tomatoes, to avoid getting genetic bottlenecks/weakened inbreds. Savng from more than one tomato is also some assurance against cross pollination of everything, but you'd still have to ferret out the cross pollinated plants the next time around unless you liked them on their own merits.

Voilá! Campagnol, Ananas Noire! French for vole is campagnol, maybe the vole was just looking for the yellow jersey inside the tomato?
