Inter-planting Between Grape Vines?

I grow three rows of grape vines. They are spaced about 7' by 7.5' between the rows. I have another vegetable row in front the vines, running E-W. The vines are in the first year.

Right now, I inter-plant pepper plants between the vines. I just wonder if I can still inter-plant some next year, and probably the 3rd year. With the vines grow fuller, I may be able to plant only the first row, so the other plants won't be shaded.

When the vines are more mature, maybe I should not inter-plant, so not to disturb the roots. Just want to hear about your experience with this.
