i would flip the love seat and the sofa, and get a larger rug, but for now turn the rug. then the fireplace will be part to the space with the chair closer to it.

The tv was mounted much too high. in fact maybe not on the wall at all, this plays up the height of the room better. but it should be no more than just above eye level.

you have a good eye you need to tweak the space a bit.

keep to the shag rug just larger.

the curtains should pull some color from the chair. but not to crazy. perhaps inset with shears.

line the top of the tv up with the mantel that should be about right.

alternately putting the couch where the tv is and flipping it entirely.

I would love to see more color as in pillows on the sofas (not many). Ikea has them & pillow covers starting at $3.00. Also check Ikea for the drapes. Normally I like to suggest going with the wall color for drapes, however you do need some more color & some art as in a painting or two. Only you can pick your art as it is too personal.

Hang the drapes just below the height of the adjacent ceiling height & take to the floor.

When you get your TV console--lower the TV a lot so that it's just over the console. No need to have it so high. Easier to hide cords if you can't rewire.

Yes, curtains behind the sofa. Drapes come in standard lengths of 96, 108, and 120. Hang the rod so you can use one of these lengths. Let the drapes just touch the floor.

The formula for getting the width right is for the panels to be 2 or 2 1/2 times the width of the windows. So if window is 60 inches wide then you will need 2 panels each 60 inches wide at a minimum.
