dig a hole.. jsut on the edge of the root mass you planted .... and find out.. at 3 to 6 inches.. if the soil is wet or dry..

Thanks Ken, the soil is rather dry. I think I'm not watering enough. In fact, this was also confirmed by the local garden center from where I bought the plants - they told me I should be watering every second day. They also told me that overhead watering is not good because the cold water on the warm leaves doesn't do good.

Is this a variety of Euonymus japonica? That species is common in the Mid-Atlantic of the USA. but I know there are lots of species. Not familiar with the entire genus, but some species just will NEVER be happy in a Mediterranean climate..., too dry (rainfall, humidity, etc.) Guessing they may also be acid loving (but not sure).

I can't grow Euonymus anymore either, so I do miss them. My deer loved to eat them.

Hi subtropix, not sure if this is the japonica variety. I attach a picture. The garden center said that it is suited to a Mediterranean climate. I've been watering them now every second day and they seem to have recovered somewhat. You can still see burnt leaves but they have also sprouted new shoots. Any advice is welcome!

They look pretty good now. I would just follow the GC's advice and talk with them about whether you should water or not after the plant is established.
