Taking socks off at friends house

When I go to a friends house, I want to take my socks off and go barefoot, but my friend is usually in socks and I feel it would be awkward if I took my socks off. My friends parents sometimes have visitors who are barefoot and they are sometimes barefoot. Is there a way that I could get my friends parents to ask me if I wanted to take my socks off.

I don't think so. It's usually unwise to try to manipulate instead of being politely direct. Just ask if it's okay.

I agree with gellchom. I think it's kind of odd to wear socks but then ask to take them off, though. What about if you wear sandals? Wouldn't you just take your shoes off and therefore be barefoot, anyway? If that's ok?

Taking and your socks off seems sort of like taking off your shirt when you are wearing just a tube top. But if you arrive without socks and take off your shoes, that's fine....the same as if you arrive wearing a tube top (provided you are built for a tube top!!). It's the stripping thing that seems rude, but kicking off your sandals is OK.
