Anyone use a spin mop?

I've seen these type on HSN and looked at them on Amazon - looks like it'd be easier to use than my sponge type mop.

Anyone have one or used one? I'm wondering if they're worth the $s.

oh great! the sponge mop I have now is o cedar! I've been trying to decide if I should replace the mop head or get a new one (like the spin type). Such major decisions... I can't even decide on a mop.

    thx for the reply!

My mom and I love our Hoover floor mate spin mops! I don't use one anymore because my current house is mostly wood and carpet, but in my old house with lots of tile it worked wonders!

I looked that up - looks like an upright carpet cleaner! I can't use anything that squirts out water onto the floor 'cause my flooring is vinyl planks. I don't want water seeping down where they join.

thx for posting tho. anyone who has tile should surely get that machine. These new fangled machines make it so much easier to clean floors.

Oh, me, me! (Waving hand like a crazy woman--I hope I'm not too late with my review. ;) I ordered one from Amazon a couple of years ago, and I love it! I works great on the painted plywood floors, as well as the sheet vinyl. If I use it on the original hardwood, I make sure to spin it out as dry as possible.

I liked it so well, I ordered one for my aunt, who was trying to hand-wring an old string mop--she really liked the spin mop, too, but unfortunately was already in later stage of dementia, and after a few months she forgot how to use it. My father took the mop after my aunt passed away, and he likes using it, too.

I'd read that the ones with the foot pedal broke easily, so I ordered the 'plunge' models--you push the mop down in the basket (with some force) to spin it. If you have issues with limited strength, or arthritis, in upper arms or hands, it might not work as well. Also, I try to set the bucket in the middle of the floor, or out from the walls and furniture a ways. The centrifugal force tends to throw a few water droplets from the spin basket--the harder/faster you spin the mop, the greater the number of droplets.

awesome! what brand is it? I'd read that the foot pedals often broke easily. recently I read about 1 that has a hand press. both on amazon. I use amazon often to look for reviews. I don't know that the hand press one would be good for me since I have arthritic hands/fingers.

seeing them on tv (hsn) is what made me think that would be better than my 'ol sponge mop. it isn't hard to wring out but doesn't easily get along the toe kick area, corners, close by the stove, fridge, etc.

glad to 'hear' from someone who has one and likes it. I'll look on amazon for a press down one.

mamag - what brand of mop did you get that you like?

steph, I'm sorry I didn't see your post until now--I've been doing some outside work since the ground has finally dried up.

Mine is a 'Twist and Shout', and I'd advise ordering a couple of the extra mop heads, just in case they discontinue the model you order, or change the style.

I paid ap.$50.00 for mine, and I remember telling a friend that, for that price, it better last longer than I do. Twist and Shout on Amazon

thx mamag! that does look like a good one - with that swivel at the base of the handle. I'll put it on my list. I read a few reviews and liked that they often commented on the ease of the handle even with arthritic hands/fingers.

I appreciate you stopping in to tell me which one you got... I'd have put an APB out on ya pretty soon tho... I've 'seen' you over on kitchens. Soon I'd have posted on one of those threads telling you that you were 'being paged on SH' - lol!

bravo! glad to hear someone else loves it also. There are so many options out there, that it is good to know which one is tried and loved - and easy before plunking down my $s.
