A bushel here, a bushel there

After having given away at least a bushel, canned a bushel or so, and eaten same, this is really the best time of year for us here in South Central Ohio.

The weather has not really been kind, too much rain in June and July and not enough sun, but the tomatoes have come through it none the less. The worst part is crawling around and under the jungle to find the hiding ripe ones.

I planted 12 plants this year, down from 30 a couple of years ago, and I really need to cut back to maybe 8. But then I'm always afraid some of the plants will fail so I always plant extra.

I still have never used a fungicide, but this year for the first time I did spray once with an insecticide. All the rain and there were a lot of insects in the garden gnawing on the tomatoes.

Thinking this next weekend we will make and can some salsa.

Hope everyone is having a great harvest season.
