One with very nice coloring :-) Seriously, it is extremely difficult to ID a JM cultivar out of the nearly 1000 registered cultivars that exist.....not to mention the possibility it could be a seedling. I've been growing and selling JM's for over 20 years and have encountered 100's of different types and there are only a handful I'd be confident assigning a name to. I would feel comfortable placing it in the Palmatum group but that doesn't narrow things down by much.

Not Amber Ghost.........or any in the Ghost series. Those are all reticulated forms - veins are distinct/darker against the rest of the leaf surface - and the veins are not at all obvious with these leaves.

I had a maple just like that....last week. I went out just now to take a picture of it. The leaves are a different color. They can change color at any time. Mine is a seedling.

Stephen, I like your attitude :-)) Sure, we all want to know what plants we are growing (or admiring) but sometimes it is just not practical to nail it down to a specific cultivar. Doesn't mean we can't appreciate them and love them just as much as if we DID know their technical lineage. Never met a JM I didn't appreciate - seed grown, NOID or with a real, documented cultivar name. They are all great.

And this tree looks even more gorgeous when filtering through sunlight!

Ok, so I finally asked the owner and he claimed it was a Bloodgood.

Although that seems to typically be much redder or maroonish...so I'm wondering if he might have had it misidentified?

Not even close to being a Bloodgood :- ) I'd be seriously inclined to believe it is a seedling JM, in which case it is only just a simple Acer palmatum.
