Mine definately do better in part shade too. Especially in August when the weather turns dry and we lose our humidity.

Hi Jen, the leaves of those plumerias got sunburned not because they were in full sun but because they were not getting enough water. Watch them in the afternoon. If the leaves droop badly they will most likely get sunburn.

With mine, sometimes I water manually when needed, especially when it rains. Some of the leaves of my potted plants got sunburned. It is hard to judge how much water they got from the rain. I just came back from Greece after spending 4.5 weeks there. All my potted plants were watered daily for 3 minutes by an automatic system, rain or shine. They were all on their own in full sun and nobody looked after them. Look at how good they look today. Not a single leaf got sunburned even though it has been very hot in the Houston area. That is because they were well watered daily.

George, I remember someone telling me that long ago, about it being dry rather than too much sun causing the burn, so I'm soaking every day. They get a hand-held hose on the soil line until the water runs out of the drain holes, a real soaking. All but Delightful are still burning, so I just moved them. We've had no cloud cover and they're getting no dappled shade from nearby trees anymore. This is the first summer without a big tree in the back yard and the plumies have never had it worse in August.
