Inexpensive range hood..

I'm ISO of an inexpensive hood (I think technically it's a power pack - I'll have a hood made). We're over budget already so I'm not going to splurge on this. My range is electric but I plan to (someday, when I'm an adult and can be responsible enough to have fire) replace with a gas stove and a more powerful hood. Until then I will still be frying, canning, and I'm sure burning spatulas because I accidental turned on the wrong burner, so I do need more than a recirculating fan. I was looking at a Broan PM250.... Thoughts? I just need it to last a few years, and anything is an improvement since I've never had more than a recirculating hood. I also will have it mounted 30" above the cooktop - do I need the metal liner? I'm oblivious in this department. But really tired of setting off smoke alarms....
