Trying to redo entry way

We own a rustic cabin off the grid on a small lake in Maine. Our exterior entry way will be getting redone and was wondering if you have any suggestions on what to do here. The basic idea is to put a new door on and then add a pitched roof over the platform just off the tar. Thanks!
