Absolute Flower Rookie

Got home from the Nats game this evening and two of my flowers had fallen into the plant...one before it even fully opened. I was assuming the flowers would last more than two to three days before falling off. Is this usual? Will they hang around a little longer if I set them in water as I've seen many posts on this forum? Flowers are rather small at about 1-3/4" across. Does it look like it could be Heidi Gold?

My bowl now has five plumeria and only one left on the plant. There are more blooms, but should I keep it dryer while flowering? Gave it some water Friday, but I'm completely guessing here so I think I'll let it dry out a bit.

They might be dropping if there is a environmental issue.. To wet/ to dry.. Cold nights , Wind...etc.. This is your first set of flowers and every variety is different. Some drop prematurely .. One comes to mind..( Taj mahal).

We all go through the this and it might have been the strong winds we had yesterday. It made a lot of my blooms drop from my trees!! I had a friend come over to see my trees and the beautiful blooms that were there the day before all dropped. The only ones left are the ones getting ready to open in a few days.. No worries....

That is great to put them in water.. It will make them last longer and you can enjoy them inside!!

if the tree is dry, give it water.. Remember wet/ dry.. It's not going to hurt your tree to water at this point in the summer Once temps get cold ( 45 degrees) at night... I would be careful to have moist soil..

The wind will also cause the tree to use more water .. It can get dehydrated fast if the roots as well as the wind work together ...

Laura, after the first blooms dropped, the inflo has become brittle and just seems to flake off when touched. Got home from business last night and it was depressing. Took photos this morning and the "flaky" parts seem to have a white coating (dried sap?), but at close inspection there seem to be a few "buds" of light green. Thinking the dryness was lack of hydration I really watered the bloomer as well as my two from Key West until I saw water coming from the drainage holes. We'll see as I am still obviously learning.

Two upsides though:

1. The ones I put in water opened up and the largest was about 2-1/4".

2. I got so into the hobby when I got I got my first bloom I ordered (and they arrived today) additional cuttings from Maui Plumeria. Lei Rainbow, Moragne #23, King K, Moir Pink, and they threw in a "Mystery" cutting. I was expecting the ol' stick in the bag, but these cuttings are huge.

Planting them tomorrow.
