Hi Lorraine, All of my adeniums are planted in plastic pots which are a third full of broken pot pieces with numerous holes in the bottom of the pot to facilitate quick drainage of water.then comes grit (used for roads) and a little soil over it and again a layer of grit on too. The soil is minimal in my pots.So far so good as they survived the delhi monsoons without dropping many leaves. So I guess even yours ought to work and yes they are great for drainage!
