So were you able to put the bump knob back on afterwards?

Thanks so much! Have had one lying around useless for months. Your fix got mine to open up. Had to hit it pretty hard. Also, as to the cap, it can probably be put back on, but pretty sure it will function with out cap, just don't hit that screw down into anything you don't want to get chewed up.

Tapping with a hammer worked for me also.

Well, I tried just about everything but this initially. This worked great! I was concerned with the plastic cap situation as well. The washer fits inside the plastic cap and prevents the bolt from coming out of the bump knob. Used pliers to get it set, and used straight edge screwdriver and hammer to tap back in place.

Who do I send the check to? That was the trick!!!!
