Kitchen sink valve

Hello, Moen has sent me cartridges for my kitchen sink. I have to close the hot/cold water valves to do this. I was able to close one of the valves, the other seems to be able to be turned clockwise all the way, but it does not shut off the water. Just for kicks, I tried turning it all the way counter clock wise and it does that too with no problem., but it doesn't shut the water..so why can't I stop that water from running? BTW, that one valve is hard to get at just to turn it on/off, so i cannot imagine replacing that valve if need be. It is just barely shown behind the main drain pipe that is also connected to the dishwasher.

Hi, You say that valve also controls the water to the dishwasher. That means the valve most likely controls the hot water. Shut the hot water off at your hot water heater and do your repair.

Good suggestion WB,quick and easy. Beat's standing on one's head replacing valve any day imo.

You really need to replace the shut off valves. When the get to the point that they won't shut off, the next step is active leaking. This is preventative maintenance that will keep you from having an insurance claim for catastrophic failure. Go with a good 1/4 turn valve and turn it off and back on every couple of months. They don't like sitting there in one position forever and tend to develop issues when you do try to use them.

Maybe my wording was wrong...and its not the hot water valve, its the cold water valve. Replacing it would very difficult for the location its in i remember one time i had a handyman plumber to check something else in the kitchen and he to turn it off and had a hellofatime doing so...so imagine trying to take if off and replacing it. I am not agile enough to tempt to do it myself, I guess the only way is to turn off the main valve., down the basement.
